Politico is reporting on Drudge:
Obama's White House drops Christian dating for Jewish proclamation
It's about time! Egads! The White House has dropped an archaic phrase that has, in the past, rankled many Jews and followers of other non-Christian religions in the USA. The use of the proclamation boilerplate "in the year of our Lord" for a celebration of Jewish Heritage Month had struck a slightly off-key note for Jewish groups in Obama's last proclamation, as in those of Bill Clinton and George W. Bush.
This year, the phrase has been replaced by the simple phrase, "in the year two thousand ten.”
Jewish commentators said "we see it as a welcome, sensitive, and attentive gesture," though it doesn't seem ever to have been a major bone of contention.
And regardless of the phrase employed, the year is still incorrectly and brazenly calculated from the alleged birth of the alleged Jesus, after all.
BUT WATCH THE UGLY ANTISEMITICS COMMENTS FLOW IN:

I like dating everything as "year of our Lord" and beginging all treaties by invoking the Holy Trinity, but it seems to me that in this one instance, since this a proclamation for Jews we could, out of kindness, have totally dropped the Christian year altogether and simply said in the "234th year of the United States"

Too little to late. Obama , along with his minions and backers are clearly anti-semitic. On another note, does Obama's statement, " i do think at a certain point you've made enough money", apply to him as well? He made 5.5 million in 2009. Does it apply to Lebron James, Tom Cruise, Oprah Winfrey or Julia Roberts? Oprah just made a 100 million dollar deal with proctor and gamble. Surely she's already made enough. Can't wait until November.

Uhm, no. The year is not calculated from the birth of the Christ. Initially, the attempt was to do so. But it was long ago recognized that the original calculation was plainly in error (though there remains significant question of what would be correct). The cost of correction would be extremely high, and those of us who are not Christians would be outraged at the attempt to make the common calendar better fit Christian belief.

Our nation was founded by free men and women, for free men and women. It was not founded as a Christian nation or any other kind of religious nation. Americans are free to worship any or no deity they choose. That's what is different -- and so sophisticated -- about the United States of America. For over 200 years, separation of church and state made America work. Now the American Taliban wants to break the wall between church and state. It can only end with America becoming a nation of squabbling theocratic mobs. How sad.

Anyone who says Christianity didn't play a huge role is a blithering idiot. The constitution is a rules document but if you look at the bill of rights the recognition of God is assumed because the wording of the bill of rights is that the government will not infringe on the rights of the people. Who are these rights granted by if the government isn’t supposed to infringe upon them. Maybe step back a bit a look at the declaration of independence in no uncertain terms these rights come from God not government (as viewed by the founders). Christianity had a huge role in the whole role of western government. You may want to revise history but truth is truth.

Ingrasam made the comment that “This Nation was NOT founded by 'Christians'. Jefferson was NOT. Franklin was NOT. Madison was NOT. Paine was NOT. Washington was NOT. Find a single quote for each that they proclaim a belief in the divinity of Christ. You CAN'T. I hate religion! Like most of the Founders did.” How do you speak with such certainty? The original founding documents were full of references to God and religion. Certainly some were not Christians but the vast majority were devout. In many cases they referred to The Lord which for a Christian is another name for Christ. Just like the term “In the year of our Lord” is a direct reference to Christ. Jefferson for instance called the principles our Country was founded on the “basic beliefs in which God has united us all.” Washington wrote “of all the dispositions and habits which lead to political prosperity, religion and morality are indispensible supports…” His adopted daughter, Nelly Curtis-Lewis, made the statement in one of her letters that Washington’s “life, his writings, prove that he was a Christian.” Franklin expressed that there is a creator who made all things, and mankind should recognize and worship Him. The fourth founding principle our Founding Fathers came up with was “without religion the government of a free people cannot be maintained.” I’m no religious fanatic but I don’t see the point of rewriting history to reflect some in vogue fad that our Founding Fathers weren’t devout Christians when in fact, if you take the time to actually READ some of the founding documents you would come to your own conclusion that in fact they were.
