Cli-fi was set up to draw on research in social psychology, human agency, and media effect theory in order to formulate rationales about how mass media communication shapes our everyday life experience and how novels and movies about AGW might impact future readers and viewers worldwide in order to inspire and motivate the public to get up off their asses and start working hard to stop climate change before it gets to be too late.
Cli-fi, by its very existence expands the range of options considered in order to encourage people to engage in climate change mitigation actions.
