It's time for the New York Times to start CAPITALIZING the word EARTH when it appears in articles about climate change. Lowercase is plain wrong. It should be typed as Earth. In phrase like "down to earth" and "she's an earthy woman" and "what on earth were you thinking of!" it is okay to use lowercase, sure. But for now the TIMES only caps the word EARTH in articles about ASTRONOMY that depect Earth as a planet as the newspaper also caps Mars and Jupiter. But only in astronomy articles. This was explained to me a few years ago by the NYT standards editor. But it's time to move forward, NYT, and start CAPPING the word Earth when it appears as a word in climate change articles, etc. Let's start a letter writing and Twitter campaign to ask the Times to reconsider. If the Times has decided to lowercase the word internet, as it did in June, then now is the time to ask the TIMES to start capping the word for our home planet, Earth, the Earth.
